From our archive: this story reflects the time it was written. Our dog and breeding pages contain current information.

What a wild ride it has been – this year especially, and the last five years as well. My Velvet and I. My partner in crime.

She was my first gundog, and we have experienced very nearly everything. We taught each other everything you could wish for. I messed her up and straightened her out again. She went along with all of it, always ready to take on new — sometimes very stupid — ideas of mine. And just as reliably, she let those ideas be trained back out of her.

She is a thoroughly honest dog. Thank you for that.

After five great working years, we are quitting the service.

At the same time we are happy and proud to announce Velvet’s last litter and the upcoming mating: IntFTCh. Drumindoney First Coise x Int. FTCh Jersey Girls Velvet. Thank you, Frank, for your trust and your exceptional dog.

Velvet’s discography

2019/2020 — Various working tests passed, 1st place at the Pillersee working test.

2020/2021 — Covid.

2021/2022 — Various dummy trials and working tests. Full working test (VGP) 1a prize, retrieving test (BLP) 1b prize. Novice field trial, 1st place excellent. CACIT trial with “good”.

2022/2023 — Various dummy trials and working tests. CACIT trial 1st place excellent, plus a 2nd place excellent.

2023/2024 — Various dummy trials and working tests. CACIT trial 1st place excellent — and with it the Int. FTCh title. Plus a 2nd place excellent.

2024/2025 — Skinners World Cup 2nd place. European Championship 3rd place excellent. Austrian-Hungarian Championship 3rd place very good. Italian Championship 5th place excellent. Plus four further CACIT trials passed, twice excellent, twice good.

Five years look tidy in a list. What the list does not show: the training evenings in the rain, the drives across Europe, the runs that went wrong. That is exactly what made the dog who now retires — and who stays with us at the Sagberg as a family dog.
